About

Malia currently lives on beautiful Hawaiian island of Kauai, spending much of her time as a volunteer for Bhakti Yoga Shack – a non-profit organization on Kauai that teaches the science of bhakti yoga and offers free/by-donation yoga events to the community. She was introduced to bhakti yoga through Bhakti Yoga Shack several years ago and continues to learn through her work and studies there. Her intention in writing about yoga is to offer others the same opportunity that she was given to experience the absolute fulfillment, peace, and joy that comes of returning to our natural state of consciousness in loving friendship with the Supreme Person.

Malia is a student of Bhakti Yoga Master Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupanada Paramahamsa – a bonafide spiritual teacher (Guru) coming in the disciplic succession (parampara)  known as the Brahma Madhva Gaudiya Sampradaya. This spiritual lineage includes the great renowned sage Srila Vyasadeva, who compiled and wrote down the Vedas some 5,000 yrs ago, and in more recent history, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1534 AD), who is acknowledged as the foremost proponent of bhakti yoga.

About Yoga and Bhakti –

Yoga is the science of understanding our true identity. It is a common belief in the West that yoga is simply a form of physical exercise, but, actually, yoga is a complete system of self-realization, or spiritual realization. The ultimate goal of all yoga practices is to lead us to a correct understanding of who we are and what the purpose is for our existence – and apply this understanding in life. Through yoga, we can come to clearly discern what is in our best interest and what is not, and thus make choices that will lead us to the highest and happiest life possible for us.

Yoga is becoming more and more popular these days. Practically anywhere you can travel in the world, people have heard of yoga and practicing some aspect of the yoga system. Many people practice the physical postures (asana) and the breathing exercises (pranayam). But those wanting to receive the full benefit of the yoga system practice bhakti yoga. Bhakti yoga is the essence of all yoga practice and the most direct path for achieving yoga’s ultimate goal.
